This week has been a complete eye opener. For a while there it felt like we were constantly working but no progress was being made or at least the facade was not looking any better. But this week, we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, though, and boy does it look pretty. On Wednesday, the stone guy came by and put up the felt and wire as a base for the scratch coat (no pictures, sorry). Then on Thursday, he put up the scratch coat base.
Then on Friday, he started putting up the stone. It was a beautiful site to come home to.
You know going through this project has been interesting to say the least. We both have an idea of what we want the house to look like and our ideas aren't always similar. I have a hard time visualizing things that are not laid out for me. Its frustrating when I can't see what Colin sees. But I completely, wholeheartedly believe in his vision and the funny thing is that that scares Colin. He knows how picky I am about certain things and I just think he doesn't want to let me down. So we are constantly going round and round....what do you think about this and what if we did it this way instead of that. (Usually when its one of my suggestions, Colin has some kind of budget rebuttal)
One of our big go-rounds was about the entry way of the house. I feel that most homes have some sort of entryway leading up to their front door. My original suggestion was to add a gable-end to the front with pretty columns. That was a no go with Colin. Something about a lot of money, time and possible water damage. Okay, that's fine but I have to have a security door. Colin let me have that one. But with the stone going in, the old stone around the doorway would have to be cut back about 3-4 inches off each side.

The second conundrum was figuring out how we could fit stone around this post (pictured below). There were talks about putting a strap around the beam and removing the post. Maybe bolting a 2x4 to the wall for the beam to support the beam? Maybe a brace? Finally, on Sunday after church, we just sat in the truck staring at the front of our house thinking. We decided that we were gonna put a post in the middle to support the beam. Not only that but we decided that we are going to wrap the brick around the bottom of the posts to add some definition to the entryway.
